On May 28th 2021, the Donation Ceremony for the “Endowment Scholarship” of the Chinese Department of the College of Humanities was held at Conference Rm. 101 of College of Humanities, Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University. Prof. Huang Xianhai, Vice President of Zhejiang University, Mr. Hu Kexian, Professor of Chinese Department of College of Humanities and donor of the Scholarship, Mr. Lou Hansong, Dean of the College, and Mr. Xu Ruijun, Deputy Secretary General of the Education Foundation, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was hosted by Cai Quan, Secretary of the CPC Committee of College of Humanities.
Vice President Huang, on behalf of the University, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Hu Kexian, a recipient of the Yongping Scholarship and presented him the honorary certificate. He said that the Scholarship is a relay of the Yongping Scholarship to boost student growth and public welfare. He hoped that College of Humanities will make use of this opportunity to popularize the culture of respecting teachers and fostering virtues and the students should aim high, understand high virtues, become great talents and take up major responsibilities.
Professor Hu Kexian, founder of the “Endowment Scholarship of the Chinese Department”, has been working at teaching and education for decades. He donated the award of the Yongping Scholarship to this Endowment Scholarship in order to honor the students of the Chinese Dept. who are well-rounded morally and intellectually. Prof. Hu expressed his hope the Scholarship would inspire more students to pursue excellence and promote teaching and learning.
Dean Lou Hansong praised that Mr. Hu Kexian has set a benchmark for the students and teachers of College of Humanities by carrying forward the academic excellence and student care of his predecessors, as well as making fruitful achievements in academic research and teaching. “Endowment Scholarship” will definitely the students to be patriotic, diligent, capable and ethical, and strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; meanwhile, it will motivate faculty members, alumni and the community to support student growth and the far progress of education.
Those present at the ceremony included the heads, students and teachers of the departments of Chinese, History, Philosophy, Institute of Ancient Books, Institute of Korean Studies and Institute of Japanese Culture.
After the ceremony, Professor Hu gave a lecture entitled “The Academic Value of the Epitaph Rubbings Collected in Zhejiang University Library”.
