Recently, Zhejiang University Education Foundation Pan Yunhe Artificial Intelligence Science and Education Fund was established on Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University, which will be used to award the students and teachers who have made remarkable achievements in the field of AI science and education, and thus promote AI science and education. Ren Shaobo, Secretary of the CPC Committee, on behalf of Zhejiang University, signed an agreement of donation with Academician Pan Yunhe and then presented the donation certificate and nameplate to Academician Pan Yunhe and Ms. Zhuang Yisu, and the appointment letters to Director of Fund Management Committee, Director and Deputy Director of Academic Committee. President Wu Zhaohui was present at the ceremony and delivered a speech.
Wu Zhaohui said that Academician Pan Yunhe is an outstanding respectable educator, a knowledgeable strategic scientist, and a renowned teaching master who has made pioneering contributions in the governance, scientific research, teaching and education, and social services of the University. The Fund reflects the patriotism, public spirit and generous care of Mr. Pan and Ms. Zhuang, which will inspire the scientists and teachers to surmount the peaks of AI. It is hoped that, with the establishment of the Fund as an opportunity, everyone present will inherit the tradition of the University, do a good job of fund raising, use the fund in an appropriate way and more importantly, turn the love from Mr. Pan and Ms. Zhuang to the unremitting efforts to drive AI, and make new and greater contributions to China to be a world major scientific center, important talent center and innovation height!
As one of the donors, Academician Pan Yunhe has had an urgent sense of mission to develop AI and a strong sense of responsibility to science and education in China. As one of the pioneers in intelligent CAD and computer art in China, he has long been engaged in the research of computer graphics, AI, CAD and industrial design and he has proposed the concepts of cross-media intelligence, data sea, intelligent library, artificial intelligence 2.0, etc. Besides, he has taken the lead in drafting and compiling national “New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan”, initiating AI in China and making noticeable contributions. He said at the ceremony that talents are the key to China’s AI, and there should be more and better talents and interdisciplinary talents in “AI + X”. He hoped to promote the training of AI talents, and contribute to China’s progress to be a large power of AI talents, and a power of education and innovation in AI talents based on this Fund.
“We should do a good job in the logistics, management and promotion of the Fund to the best of the benevolence and generosity and Academician Pan Yunhe,” expressed by Fu Qiang, Director of Fund Management Committee and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Zhejiang University. Chen Chun, Director of Academic Committee and Director of Faculty of Information Technology, said that the Fund by Academician Pan Yunhe is a philanthropy of merit and benefit at present and for the future, and he will exert all his power and make due contributions to the AI science and education in China.
The ceremony was chaired by Huang Xianhai, Vice President of the University and those present online and offline included Zheng Nanning, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Deputy Director of Academic Committee of the Fund, and Dai Qionghai, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of the School of Information Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, who expressed their congratulations on the Fund and their expectations on the cultivation of AI talents. The heads of relevant departments, colleges and students and teachers were also present.
