On December 29, the inauguration ceremony of Yao Yufeng Bright Fund, Zhejiang University Education Foundation was held on Zijingang Campus.
Yao Yufeng Bright Fund, initiated and first donated by Professor Yao Yufeng, Director of Ophthalmology of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, is dedicated to supporting the training of professional ophthalmologists in multiple levels and fields, developing ophthalmic healthcare in communities and remote areas, and offering better solutions to national healthcare. Ms. Zhou Lihong, founding partner of Zhejiang Future Invest Co, Ltd., Ms. Yao Fang, Deputy General Manager of Hangzhou Dragonpharm Co., Ltd. and Ms. Xu Xiaojun, an alumna of Zhejiang University, made donations to the fund as the first cohort of donors.
Zhou Tianhua, Vice President of Zhejiang University, presented honorary certificates to the donors and made a speech. Zhou said that the Fund shows the vision of Professor Yao Yufeng and the entrepreneurs for the future of China’s ophthalmology and strong responsibility and support for saving ophthalmic patients. He hoped that the relevant disciplines can take this opportunity to step up theoretical innovation and technological innovation in the field of ophthalmology, to satisfy the needs of the people for eye health, to match public welfare with disciplines, and to make greater contributions to national and regional medical and health care in China.
Liu Limin, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, said that under the leadership of Professor Yao Yufeng, the ophthalmology department of the Hospital has made great progress in the past 20 years and come to be a force in China’s ophthalmology field. Prof. Yao is not only an outstanding model of medical workers, but the glory and pride of the Hospital in the new era.
Yan Hongfeng, head of the Zhejiang Station of Guangming Daily, recalled his experience of reporting the stories of Yao Yufeng nationwide consecutively beginning from June 3, 2017, and his impressive stories of being responsible to the times and to his missions, showing the kindness of doctors attracted nationwide attention and moved a lot of people. Therefore, it is of great significance to set up this Fund and play its role to benefit more patients suffering from eye diseases.
One of the donors, Zhou Lihong, said that the Fund will bring hope and light to the society. Moved by the stories of Prof. Yao, she expressed the hope of pooling the strength of more sensible people and supporting the Fund to the best of her ability.
Li Peipei, Vice Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University, said that he was proud of having such a great doctor in the University as he personally had been given the warmth and quality services from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital as well as the attentive and meticulous care from Professor Yao and his team. He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the donors to the Fund as a like-minded friend of them.
Wang Yuzhi, Vice Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University, sang high praise for Prof. Yao as he is not only a professional doctor, but a courteous, gentle and magnanimous teacher, who serves as a model to the students and teachers of Zhejiang University. Wang called for the teachers and medical workers, by carrying forward the selflessness and benevolence of Prof. Yao, to make due contributions to China in their respective jobs.
Yao Yufeng expressed thanks to the University for the education, training and support to him, so he can now be a person of some use and to some use. He promised that as a teacher, researcher and doctor with a great responsibility and an honorable mission, he will continue to uphold the philosophy of “being prudent in life and conscientious in career” to do his best for talent training, scientific research and social services.
The ceremony was hosted by Shen Liyong, Director of Development Liaison Office of Zhejiang University and Secretary General of Education Foundation. Those present at the ceremony were from the Publicity Department, Hospital Management Office, School of Medicine, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital and the Development Liaison Office of the University.
