The 2020 Zhejiang University External Scholarship Open Day Successfully Held

The season is changing as we embrace the start of a new year. With thesuccessful launch of the annual Zhejiang University External Scholarship OpenDay, a sense of warmth began to envelop the Zijingang Campus as we shift fromchilly winters.

As one of the most important players of the External Scholarship OpenDay, nearly 20 representatives from 13 external scholarship providers attendedthe Zhejiang University Excellent Student Commendation Conference for the2019-2020 academic year held on the evening of December 31. Ren Shaobo,Secretary of the University CPC Committee and President of the EducationFoundation, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Wu Zhaohui,President of the University and Adviser for the Education Foundation presentedawards to the Chu Kochen Scholarship recipients one by one, while universityleaders Yan Jianhua, Ye Min and Huang Xianhai announced the list ofcommendations. Qiu Yibo, Chairman and President of Hengyi Petrochemical Co.,Ltd., spoke as a representative of the external scholarship provider.Representatives from scholarship providers issued certificates to thescholarship recipients and were given flowers from the students.

Secretary Ren Shaobo said that 2020 has been an extraordinary year. TheUniversity has long been patriotic and unyielding, and has sought reform andinnovation, served the people and pursued a tradition of excellence in runningschools. The University has also made new progress in building a world-classuniversity with Chinese characteristics, while the personal values of studentsand teachers have also been fully demonstrated in serving the major nationaland regional strategic needs and the development of various undertakings of theUniversity. Based on the “14th Five-Year Plan”, the University willstart a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way.It is hoped that the students will “make resolutions”, “develop morality”,“stand up" and “make meritorious deeds”, and become innovative, outstandingand respected newcomers of the era. He pointed out that as we stand at a newhistorical starting point, the University will follow the strategic orientationof higher quality, greater excellence, greater respect, and bigger dreams. Bycultivating a solid foundation, maintaining integrity and seeking innovation,we will strive to build Zhejiang University into a world-class university andlive up to the care and love given by our alumni community and all sectors ofsociety.

Qiu Yibo congratulated the outstanding students who received thecommendations. He said that Zhejiang University is an institution of higherlearning with a long history and an outstanding reputation. In the course ofmore than 120 years, Zhejiang University has made excellent contributions tocultivating outstanding talents, promoting sci-tech progress, and servingsocial development. Hengyi Group and Zhejiang University have long formed anextremely deep emotional foundation and a firm belief in win-win cooperation,and have a high degree of recognition of the goal and vision and a strongdemand for complementary advantages. As the company continues to grow biggerand stronger, it is hoped that the company can contribute more to thedevelopment of China's education, especially that of Zhejiang University.Together the two will write a new chapter of friendly cooperation, and create anew glory of mutual benefits and win-win results.

On the afternoon of the Open Day, Shen Liyong, Director of theDevelopment Liaison Office and Secretary-General of the Education Foundation,hosted the external scholarship appreciation meeting with the theme of"Synergy, Development, Gratitude, and Mutual Benefits". VicePresident Huang Xianhai attended the appreciation meeting and delivered aspeech. He said that the achievements of the University and the Foundation areinseparable from the strong support of alumni and people from all walks of lifeat home and abroad. In the future, they will continue to promote the vigorousdevelopment of China’s higher education and charity undertakings with greaterachievements. Later, on behalf of the University and the Foundation, PresidentHuang presented the certificates of appreciation to the award-providingrepresentatives one by one to express the University's most sincere gratitude.

Representatives of scholarship providers including Wang Huaiyong, GeneralManager of East China Region of Xiwang Senlan Science and Technology Co., Ltd.,(SLANVERT); Zhang Xi, Director of the Human Resources Management Center of HailiangGroup; Gu Qian, Director of the Recruitment and Deployment Department of HuaweiHangzhou Research Institute; Yu Linmao, Senior Vice President of MOGU Inc.; andLiang Donghui, Managing Partner of L & H Law Firm have all expressed theirhope that through awarding students, students would strive for continuousself-improvement, integrity and benevolence. Representatives of theaward-winning students shared the joy of growth and expressed their commitmentto serving the motherland and society. At the end of the appreciation ceremony,Li Peipei, Vice Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University,delivered a speech. He once again expressed his heartfelt gratitude to theaward providers for their dedication to University education, and lookedforward to gathering more resources to take root in the Chinese land and servethe times. Relevant leaders from the Graduate Work Department of the UniversityCPC Committee, Youth League Committee, and Employment Guidance and ServiceCenter were also in attendance.

Prior to the commendationceremony, representatives of the scholarship providers visited the ZhejiangUniversity Museum of Art and Archaeology.

It is reported that there is atotal of 49 external scholarships for the current academic year, with a totalaward amount of over 7.2 million yuan, benefiting more than 1,200 students.
