On the afternoon of December15, 2020, the 5th Meeting of the First Zhejiang University EducationFoundation Westward Migration Gratitude Fund Management Committee and the 2020Annual Meeting was successfully held on Zijingang campus. Zhang Xi, Chairman ofthe Development Committee of Zhejiang University and Honorary Director of theWestward Migration Gratitude Fund Management Committee, Zheng Qiang, Secretaryof the CPC Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Taiyuan Universityof Technology, and Huang Xianhai, Vice President of Zhejiang University,attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Zhang Xi expressed that in itsdevelopment of 123 years, Zhejiang University has resonated with and marched inthe same direction as China. Generations of Zhejiang University members haveupheld the spirit of seeking truth and innovation, and made major contributionsto the prosperity of China, national rejuvenation and human progress. Thespiritual inheritance that sprouted from the Qiushi Academy and became more andmore shining during the westward migration is an important part of the Zhejiangspirit. We must continue to learn, understand, practice and carry forward thespirit of seeking truth, be practical, gain a strong foothold in the tide ofthe times and be a front runner.
Zheng Qiang said that as the second hometown of Zhejiang University andthe cultural-ethical home of its teachers, students and alumni, the westwardmigration school site is a place worth remembering and we should be gratefulforever. It is necessary to consciously shoulder the historical mission ofcultivating people and serving China, and further bring together the care andsupport of global alumni and the support of friends from all walks of life insociety, inherit the quintessence of westward migration, explore culturalconnotations, and deepen the school-local friendship.
Huang Xianhai said that thewestward migration of Zhejiang University is a path of awakening to save theChinese nation from subjugation, a path of hard work to serve China withscience, a path of inheritance of seeking truth, and a path of unity inadversity. It is necessary to gather more resources, carry out extensivecooperation in education, culture, industry, technology and other fields,promote the prosperity and development of the westward migration school site,continue to expand and strengthen the Westward Migration Gratitude Fund, buildand promote the cultural-ethical values of westward migration, and be gratefulto the important brand of the westward migration hometown.
Officials from Taihe, Yizhouand Meitan as well as representatives of the management committee members saidthat the scale of the Westward Migration Gratitude Fund has continued to grow,and its social reputation has increased with each passing day. It has played animportant role in serving the education in the western region and thecultivation of outstanding talents. They also expressed their hope of havingmore forces to participate in the governance of regional development.
At the meeting, on behalf ofthe Fund Management Committee, Director Zheng Qiang presented letters ofappointment to Chen Xiaofeng and Shen Liyong, deputy directors of the WestwardMigration Gratitude Fund Management Committee; standing committee members ZhuGuoying, Chen Yueqiang, and Lv Mingrui, as well as committee members WangKuifeng, Weng Liang, and Xu Ruijun. A donation certificate was also presentedto Shanghai Seeking Investment Management Co., Ltd. The Office of the FundManagement Committee reported on the financial revenues of the WestwardMigration Gratitude Fund and the progress of project implementation, discussedand approved the 2021 work plan of the Westward Migration Gratitude Fund.
