On January 29, Zhejiang University and ShanghaiXunmeng Information Technology Co., Ltd. announced the joint establishment of theZhejiang University Virus Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Special Fund,with a fund of 100 million yuan. On the same day, the foundation announced theestablishment of a fund management committee and an expert committee in chargeof the follow-up management of the fund and the use of funds.
It is understood that this donation will bespecifically used to support the prevention and treatment of viral infectionsand respiratory infectious diseases, especially the support guarantee andscientific research associated with COVID-19, including the provision ofmedical supplies for hospitals in severely affected areas, and awards for medicalstaff who have made contributions, as well as for the prevention and control ofvirus infection and critical illnesses.
The expert committee of the special fund is comprised of more than 10 first-lineprofessors and doctors who have long been engaged in virus, immune andinflammation research, as well as infectious respiratory and critical caremedicine, including Academician Li Lanjuan, a high-profile expert of theNational Health Commission and Director of the State Key Laboratory ofInfectious Diseases, Gao Fu, a high-level expert of the National HealthCommission and Director of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention,Academician Liu Zhihong and Academician Duan Shumin of Zhejiang UniversitySchool of Medicine, Academician Dong Chen of Tsinghua University School ofMedicine, Shen Huahao from the Second Affiliated Hospital of ZhejiangUniversity School of Medicine, Qu Jieming from the Ruijin Hospital of ShanghaiJiaotong University, Chen Rongchang of the Shenzhen Institute of RespiratoryDiseases, Cao Bin from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Song Yuanlin from FudanUniversity Zhongshan Hospital, as well as Zhang Min from the First People’sHospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
